22 Lance's Bike Missing Notice

Lance. Don't despair for your precious bike. You have survived more worse things. You have also famously once said 'Its NOT about the bike'. C'mon, you'll come out of this loss pretty quick.

Meanwhile, I have asked my local milk producer to publish a "Missing" notice on the face of their carton. Tomorrow, every man, woman or both... will drink from it. They will see it and at once be outraged. Lets hope that outrage won't lead to indigestion.

I have suggested the characteristic "15/2" theme for this occasion since this is the day your bike actually got stolen and this logo was made. It is also 5 days after you got disease (10/2) which works well since everything happened in the same month. Let me know if you want ideas for other merchandise centered around this theme (shoes, wrist bands, caps, long underwear, etc).

Later man...

  5. Phil : Good question. You'll have to contact the manager of SBL - Suspicious Bovine Limited.

For all the publicity that he build up on this bike leading up to the races, he deserves it. He should have just kept his mouth shut. 100,000 twitter followers. Someone convince me there aren't a few criminals in there too.

  8. Anon @ 11:16pm : Don't be quick to jump to conclusions yet. Think outside the box. What if the bike and the companies behind it DIDN'T garner the publicity it needed? What if all this is staged to achieve that purpose. Hmmm....

  9. @ Christy : Not sure if that was joke. But how is a U-lock coming into picture when the bikes were inside locked trucks?

Considering that missing people's pics appear on milk bottles, a bike costing much less than a life taking its place isn't so bad. 10,000 dollars did you say? I frankly don't care.

and we heard him saying that the situation wasn't safe enough for him in France...that he needed extra muscle men to take care of his majesty...this is laughable !!!

I think its time I said that safety and security is what cycling needs at the moment. Just look at the terrible state of affairs so far at the TOC. The pros have had to race hundreds of miles in cold wet weather. You have crashes. Poor visibility. Worse, the team radios started giving out completely false information. It was absolute chaos on Stage 1. And now bikes costing thousands of dollars are being stolen. Cancer can take a backstage in the peleton right now. There are much bigger things at hand that needs attention.

  13. @ Anon 2:28pm : Yes, its interesting that Armstrong has no security even at home here. Whatever made him think that enmity is directed at him only from Europe.

Absolutely agree with Mark V. As interesting a race as the weather in California makes it, it isn't entertaining to see unsafe practices, poor management and organisation. Thats the last thing these riders need, after suffering miles of cold, wet weather.

  14. BB : Talk about safety. Armstrong just crashed today in stage 2, evidently by a photographer's motorcycle!

    No radios, rain, crashes, etc....

Sounds like what a bike race should be like. I am not the first to say this, but who wants to watch a dry Paris-Roubaix, or any of the classics in Belgium? People raced for years in worst conditions, unsafe equipment, and without the medical attention that can be provided now days.

  16. Charles : Obviously, the use of team radios in racing is a hotly contested topic today. As far as weather is concerned, you can't control it. But for the last issue - crashes. If its coming from the riders due how the race progresses, you can't help it. Thats how it happened! But if motorvehicles, spectators, animals, and crappy equipment is involved somehow in this, thats not right. Oh well... all is fair in war and love.

I don't mean to be a stickler, but Lance's 10/2 refers to October 2, not February 10th. He is American, and like most Americans, he puts the month first when writing dates, so the date that his bike was stolen would be 2/15 if he were to create a logo to signify the date.

Whoa whoa , now watch out. That farmer could be subject to a lawsuit for the 'moostrong' (remember the infamous "barkstrong?"). I wonder what Livestrong will demand as compensation in court. A year's worth of cattle, and cheese?

  21. According to Lance (through Twitter.com) the Sacramento PD found his bike and it was on its way back to the Astana camp.
