I assume he is saying that the impact tests performed under ANSI standards have no relevance. It's true that bike helmets only afford limited protection (e.g., limited side and no face protection), but I've known people that have crashed and the helmet did save them from serious injury (i.e., the helmet was broken but the head wasn't).Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13887692.post-55020361601726599432010-03-18T11:19:31.881-04:002010-03-18T11:19:31.881-04:00I'm a firm believer in having more than one bi...I'm a firm believer in having more than one bike. Jobst has made errors in his equations and explanations of the science behind cycling, as regulars on rec.bicycles.tech will tell you. In his emails to me, I also caught grammatical and spelling mistakes more than once. I don't give him a hard time about it. Now if you're writing a technical paper to a committee or a design report to your manager for your job, I can see why you would have to be on top of your game. Its also time to cut him some slack as I believe he's pushing mid 70's.

Yes, Steel has its own ride properties and that makes it unique! Jobst wrote to me :

"Overhang of the axle is the distance between hub bearing and dropout, that in your picture with the Campagnolo Record hub is huge because the bearing is inside the hub and the face of the jam nut is way outside of that. You might ask Andrew Muzi how often he replaces broken Campagnolo Record hub axles.

Shimano has the hub bearing right behind the lock ring that bears on
the smallest sprocket and the jam nut face is a few thousandths of an
inch farther out. This also enables using a small "hyper-cracker" to remove the sprocket retaining lock ring that comes off relatively easily because it bears no torque loads from pedaling."Ron Georgehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18394865788996482667noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13887692.post-60260082700465229542010-03-15T20:49:50.469-04:002010-03-15T20:49:50.469-04:00Bike Hutt : My understanding is that wheel over ha...Bike Hutt : My understanding is that wheel over hang is the distance from the center of spokes to the center of the ball bearings.
