Structural efficiency is always good for racing, be it cycling or motorsports, but to a sensible limit. What upsets me is that people have lost all perspective on the cost involved in pursuing cycling as a sport these days. It is beyond ridiculous.Ron Georgehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18394865788996482667noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13887692.post-20039017405919735502010-07-02T00:33:59.477-04:002010-07-02T00:33:59.477-04:00Sounds good on paper. But someone please explain to me why on earth are such high values of stiffness to weight and strength to weight ratios needed for bicycles anyway?? It is totally unnecessary as I think the peak torsional demands of a road frame is way less. Do you really need quadruple digit lb-ft/degree of stiffness? In my opinion, the uneducated cycling customer is being asked to pay for miniscule benefits and host of other tradeoffs.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13887692.post-57685037734570126392010-07-02T00:26:05.728-04:002010-07-02T00:26:05.728-04:00I know about that. The batch of bikes made specifically for the event had an epoxy failure and the head lug disconnected from the IsoTruss tubing. Complete analysis is still being worked on. The company went to great lengths to gather a few bikes from previous production runs to have available for the demonstration. I'm not sure whether they had an issue after this incident.Ron Georgehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18394865788996482667noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13887692.post-66516258795371155762010-07-01T23:44:03.015-04:002010-07-01T23:44:03.015-04:00The Composites World article didn't mention th...The Composites World article didn't mention this:
http://www.bustedcarbon.com/2010/03/delta-7-arantix.html

We've seen such things for at least 30 years in aerospace, but they fail the "can't be ungodly expensive for no tangible advantage" test.

One thing says it all - the frame is 10% heavier than one that was ridden six years ago.Steve Ahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13650405341304401203noreply@blogger.com
